Experts gather to plan future growth of creative industries

Harnessing the potential of Scotland’s creative industries was top of the agenda over the last two days (Thursday 26 and Friday 27 November) following initial meetings of industry experts in film and music.
Chaired by Creative Scotland, these meetings focused on the film and music sectors and each agreed to a programme of work to identify and recommend actions that will develop and grow each sector.

Chief Executive sought for Creative Scotland

Recruitment begins today for an experienced and inspirational Chief Executive with a bold creative vision for Scotland to lead Creative Scotland, the country’s new cultural development body.
Creative Scotland will act as advisor, advocate, investor and broker across a spectrum of innovative and imaginative organisations, with artists and creativity firmly at its centre. Operating across the creative industries, the Chief Executive will require the credibility to lead a new national organisation, alongside excellent influencing, communication and negotiating skills.
Creative Scotland business model unveiled

Creative Scotland 09 Ltd unveiled its eagerly anticipated business model, setting out the structure and operational design of the new cultural development body, which is due to be formed in the first half of next year.
Ewan Brown, Chairman, Creative Scotland 09 Ltd, described the new organisation as demonstrably different from its predecessors, talent focused and hugely ambitious for Scotland and for Scottish artists. He stressed that Creative Scotland would work with, and for, artists and creative practitioners, reinforcing its role as a catalyst for the nation’s cultural ambitions.
Starter for 6 gets a £1 million boost from Creative Scotland

A pioneering programme to support creative entrepreneurs has received £1 million backing from Creative Scotland’s Innovation Fund to offer an extended service.
During the last three years, Starter for 6, which was set up by NESTA (National Endowment for Science Technology and the Arts) has directly invested in more than 80 creative businesses, as well as offering business advice to over 200 emerging entrepreneurs.
Scotland’s Creative Industries Partnership: Co-ordination Group

Creative Scotland chaired the first meeting of the Scotland’s Creative Industries Partnership: Co-ordination Group in Edinburgh on Wednesday 9 September. The meeting was attended by the Minister for Culture, Michael Russell MSP, and all members of the Co-ordination Group were represented.
Creative Scotland Launches ‘Vital Spark’ Awards

A new £1million fund offering direct support to artists was launched on 12 August 2009. Creative Scotland has committed £1 million from its £5m innovation Fund for the ‘Vital Spark’ awards to enable new collaborations by creative practitioners.
Individual awards of between £20,000 to £100,000 will be offered to encourage work that goes beyond the boundaries of creative disciplines and will support collaborations between artists and practitioners working across all the disciplines.
