Youth Music Initiative

The Scottish Government’s Youth Music Initiative invests £8 million per year in Scotland’s 32 local authorities and Jordanhill School to create access to school based music making. The purpose of this funding is to ensure that the P6 target is met – “every school pupil in Scotland should be offered a year of free music tuition by the time they reach primary six”. The Scottish Borders Council meets the P6 target through a range of music making activities incorporating local heritage and culture in the classroom.
